New York Yankees Retire Derek Jeter’s Number

The former manager of Crown Growth Partners, Geoff Block is an experienced financial professional and entrepreneur who earned a bachelor’s in business management from Tulane University in 1994. Though he presently resides in Bluffton, South Carolina, Geoff Block is an avid fan of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) New York Yankees.
The most storied franchise in MLB history added another name to its list of legends on May 14 when it officially retired Derek Jeter’s jersey and added his plaque to its Monument Park. Jeter became the 22nd Yankee to have his number retired by the team and joins former teammates Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada with a plaque commemorating his career in Monument Park. Additionally, he received a number “2” made up of 14-karat white gold diamonds from Yankees co-owner Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal. He was joined at the ceremony by his family as well as former teammates Mariano Rivera, Tino Martinez, David Cone, and Hideki Matsui.
Originally drafted sixth overall in the 1992 MLB Draft, Jeter played 20 seasons with the Yankees and was named a league All-Star in 14 seasons. He won five World Series with New York as well as five Silver Slugger awards as the best-hitting shortstop and five Gold Glove awards as the best-fielding shortstop.
