The 2018 MLB Amateur Draft was held in May, and the Yankees used their first-round pick, 23rd overall, to select catcher Anthony Seigler from Cartersville High School in Georgia. Seigler and the team took more than a month to agree to terms of the contract, but he put pen to paper on June 9, agreeing to a deal that includes a bonus of $2.82 million.
As a high school senior, Seigler had a .421 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 16 stolen bases. By signing with New York, the talented switch-hitting catcher is foregoing his commitment to the University of Florida. The Yankees also announced the signing of five other top-10 picks, including right-handed pitcher Frank German and outfielder Brandon Lockridge.
